Other research topics:
Ecological niche modelling of an emerging pathogenic mycobacteria (Mycobacterium ulcerans) which causes Buruli ulcer disease. Because the mycobacterium is environmentally acquired and current vaccination is not affordable in rural west Africa, we aim for a cost effective method of intervention resulting from understanding of the niche of the organism.
Other organisms:
We are studying the movement of the mycobacerium through the trophic food webs, testing the hypothesis that it is maintained in the environment by these interactions, and its association with land cover variables at fine and coarse scales.
Other methods/technologies:
Ecological niche modelling, GIS, land cover classification, trophic network modelling.
Suggestions for potential research cooperations:
we are particularly looking for methods to apply the principle, and would like to collaborate with organisations who have relations to environmental regulation agencies.
