Suggestions for potential research cooperations:
Our expertise is proteomics for rapid and reliable identification of surface proteins in Gram-positive bacteria (mainly Streptococcus and Staphylococcus spp). We have successfully set up and applied a "shaving" protocol for further identification of the generated peptides by LC/MS/MS. The best candidates are produced as recombinant polypeptides and used for vaccine or diagnostic purposes (see our publications in PubMed). We have recently developed a protein array using 95 pneumococcal surface proteins identified from a broad collection of 24 clinical isolates. The array has been proved to be useful as a serodiagnostic tool for detection of infection in children <4 years old (see Olaya-Abril et al, Mol Cell Proteomics 2015, 14 (10): 2591-2608). This platform can be also used for vaccine candidate discovery or in epidemiological surveillance programs. We are looking for partners who have collections of sera from different pneumococcal etiologies, ages, etc., to expand our study. Also, partner for over-expressing our recombinant proteins. Any other idea is welcome.
