Suggestions for potential research cooperations: 

MALDI-MS is an emerging technology in clinical routine diagnostics for the species determination. We have successfully applied the technology to strain-level typing by studying potential nosocomial infections. Together with others, we are currently driving the technology towards the routine detection of antimicrobial resistance. We would be highly interested to cooperate with parteners who have sequencing capabilities and/or sets of previously typed (drug resistant) fungal and/or bacterial strains to further develop and validate our typing approaches.

Our institute houses the German National Reference Center for Systemic Mycoses, additionally making us a strong clinical partner in mycology. MALDI-TOF MS should be strongly considered as a versatile technology for tracking nosocomial pathogens and infection chains. It is currently being implemented in most routine diagnostic laboratories, and thus becoming a widely available end-user platform.
