Other research topics:
biosensors and point-of-care tests
Other methods/technologies:
monoclonal antibodies and immuno-assays
Suggestions for potential research cooperations:
1. Our group has experience in cell culture, virology and immunology, development and characterization of monoclonal antibodies and immuno-assays, and seeks engineering/physical sciences and other interdisciplinary partners for developing fast, reliable and multiplex immunosensors, POC tests, and biosensors.
2. We are particularly interested in finding partners in the field of emerging zoonotic viral pathogens (biology-ecology-diagnostics) with relevance to Central and Eastern Europe (e.g. influenza viruses - HPAI, Flaviviruses - WNV and TBEV.., rabies virus in wildlife, new paramyxoviruses and coronaviruses). As well as neglected bacterial infections like leptospirosis.

National Institute of Research-Development in Microbiology and Immunology “Cantacuzino” Bucharest (IC) is coordinated by the Romanian Ministry of Health and is the leading public research institution in medical microbiology and immunology, having a long tradition (over 90 years) of research and developments in infectious diseases, immunology and microbial genetics concerning: microbial pathogenicity mechanisms, host-pathogens interactions, antibiotic resistance, infectious diseases prevention and control, phenotypic and molecular characterization of pathogens such as and genetic studies useful in tracing infections, development of new molecular tests to increase capacity for rapid response in the cases of microbiological alerts, medical and experimental vaccinology, R&D in biologicals for human use, immunoassay kits R&D&I. The Institute is accredited as a competent body for surveillance, response to epidemics and scientific expertise by the ECDC and is a member of the international network of Pasteur Institutes and Associated Institutes. IC holds the National Reference Laboratories (NRL) for medical microbiology diagnostics, excepting TBC and HIV. There is a large collection of microbial pathogens (bacteria, viruses, fungi), and a state-of-the-art animal facility which includes transgenic and specific pathogen free (SPF) mouse strains also. Besides, IC is a manufacturer of biologicals for human use, including seasonal vaccine against influenza.
